KEEPING MEMORIES ALIVE
My parents used to grow these long green beans in our backyard when I was a little girl. Now, that both are gone, I search for recipes that my parents cooked. You are empowering the next generation of Chinese Americans to continue with these home recipes. They will never diminish as long as the recipes live on with each generation. ~Sandie
WELCOMING NEW FAMILY MEMBERS
My husband and I are adopting a 6-year old boy from Henan Province in the next few months. Ensuring we encourage and support his heritage is importance to us, and one way we hope to do that is through food. We want to be sure we can prepare some foods that will hopefully be more familiar than macaroni and cheese. ~Lisa
RECLAIMING HERITAGE
I didn't grow up with a lot of Chinese cultural influences, as my parents were too busy working in a Chinese restaurant. I grew up not being too proud of my Chinese heritage given the racism I endured as a kid. Now that I have a son, I want him to be proud of his heritage and I am learning as much as I can through your superb website. ~Alberto
GIVING SPECIAL GIFTS
The fleece baby blanket is so very soft and my daughter in law, who is from Hong Kong, appreciated the pattern of red and gold. The onesies were adorable as well. I was glad to be able to bring a smile to her face, with the little lion dancer and the lucky dog; not what she was expecting. Thanks for what you do. ~Maureen
BRINGING BACK MEMORIES
This brought back lots of memories from when I was little in the 50s. It used to be a tradition in our family to make these with our cook from China. But we filled some palm sugar in the center, so we'd have a sweet brown liquid with each bite, better than just the plain dough. ~Susan
BUILDING MULTICULTURAL FAMILIES
I stumbled upon your site while trying to prepare for the Mid-Autumn Festival. I am white, but my husband is Chinese-American. He no longer has much family, so trying to keep his Chinese culture alive has been hard. This site has helped me so much, and I am beyond grateful! He is going to be over the moon about our party next month. ~K
DEEPENING STUDENT RELATIONSHIPS
I teach English to Chinese students online and your blog was the perfect gem to find! Often students talk about the different holidays in China. They do their best to describe them, but I'm often left with more questions. You give a great description, but then add a personal touch. ~Lisa
PROMOTING REPRESENTATION
Thanks so much for that insightful interview and creating this very useful and important website. I really think that what you are doing is so very important; not only for the Chinese American community, but also the whole Asian American community that is so misunderstood. ~James
CELEBRATING NEW BEGINNINGS
The onesies I ordered from your website were absolutely perfect. I bought them for my new grandson's Red Egg and Ginger party. He wore the red "Lucky Baby" outfit to his big party. I would be happy to order from your site again: cute clothing, prompt service. What more could I want? ~Anne
CREATING NEW CELEBRATIONS
This article helped me and my grandchildren understand some of the reasons and recipes behind a lot of the activities that take place at this time of year. They thought it very cool to each receive a red envelope with money stashed inside. We have all decided to make this one of our cherished family times and get togethers. ~Corky
